President Bidya Devi Bhandari is scheduled to address a meeting of the Federal Parliament on Thursday afternoon.
A joint meeting of the House of Representatives and the National Assembly has been called at the Parliament building, Naya Baneshwor, for 4 pm today.
This is the first time the Lower House and the Upper House are holding the joint meeting.
Article 95.2 of the constitution states, “The President shall address the first session after election to the House of Representatives and a joint sitting of both Houses of the Federal Parliament after the commencement of the first session of each year.”
Earlier, the Cabinet had decided the date of today for the head of state’s address to the federal lawmakers.
It has been expected that the President will congratulate the government and the lawmakers for successfully holding the elections and call them to take the country ahead towards development and prosperity.
President Bhandari will address the joint Parliament meeting to present the government’s annual policy and programmes too.
